An excerpt from the book:
Stupidity often caused Professor Robert Young to squirm with unbearable irritation. He had long ago reached the sad conclusion that human kind was afflicted with an abundance of it.
As the brutal Jordan Valley sun sent tickling sweat beads down his back, the irony of his current predicament dawned on him. The reason that he was now literally hanging by his fingertips for dear life was his own display of the very human fault he despised so much. Rather than taking the conventional path up to the 600 foot hill through the zigzagging goat trail, he had chosen to trek across the more dangerous route. Young’s grandfather had always discouraged him from taking the easy route in life.
Young looked below at the 30 foot drop his body would surely not handle well, then above at the man standing on the ancient rampart holding a dagger and staring at him. He was covered entirely in a black Galabiya, with only his eyes visible.
“Damn it, damn it, damn it,” Young muttered. He wanted to kick himself. He would if his legs weren’t dangling underneath him.
The dangerous-looking man tucked his weapon into his black belt and offered his hand.
Young hesitated. Death by freefall or by a slit throat?
